Apple Cider Vinegar for Horses
Unpasteurised apple cider vinegar is a traditional, fermentation-produced product used in horse feeding as part of a balanced diet. Chia de Gracia apple cider vinegar is produced in France on a small farm, where the apples are grown and the entire production process is carried out on-site from start to finish.
The vinegar is produced in small batches in oak barrels and is unpasteurised and unfiltered, preserving its natural composition as close to the original as possible.
Natural Composition
Apple cider vinegar contains naturally occurring compounds from the apple as part of the end product of the fermentation process. It contains:
-
organic acids (naturally occurring as a result of fermentation)
-
minerals naturally present in apple, such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus
-
small amounts of other trace elements
-
enzymes typical of the fermentation process
Unpasteurised and unfiltered apple cider vinegar may contain natural sediment ("mother"), which is a normal part of the production method.
Nutrients and Composition – Background Information
Apple cider vinegar is a fermentation-produced apple product whose composition is based on natural fermentation. It naturally contains organic acids, particularly acetic acid, as well as minerals originally present in the apple, of which potassium is the most significant in terms of quantity. In addition, the composition of the vinegar includes small amounts of other minerals and phenolic compounds from the apple.
Dietary Use
Apple cider vinegar is suitable for use in conjunction with horse feeding as a liquid that is mixed into water or into the regular feed. It is an easy way to add properties typical of a fermentation product as part of the daily diet.
Dosage:
15–50 ml / day
Mix into drinking water or into the regular feed.
External Use – Traditional Application
Apple cider vinegar has traditionally been used also as an external rinse solution for the horse's coat and skin, for example in the tail and mane area.
Example dilution:
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar / 1 litre of water
