Brewer's Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) for Dogs

Brewer's yeast is a natural nutritional supplement made from Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast, used as part of a balanced diet for dogs when you want to add B-group vitamins, amino acids, and yeast-derived nutrients to the diet. Brewer's yeast is rich in natural nutrients and is often used to balance the diet and as a nutritional supplement that supports the normal function of digestion.

Natural composition of brewer's yeast

Brewer's yeast naturally contains: B-group vitamins, amino acids and high-quality protein, enzymes, minerals and trace elements, as well as structural fibres from the yeast cell

Brewer's yeast has a high protein content (approx. 44 %) and contains several essential amino acids, such as lysine, threonine, methionine, and tryptophan.

Yeast cell fibre structures – beta-glucans and MOS

The cell wall of brewer's yeast naturally contains beta-glucan structures and mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS), which are fibre compounds typical of yeast.

Beta-glucans are soluble fibre structures involved in nutrient processing in the digestive tract and the natural functions of the gut.

Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) are fibre structures found on the surface of yeast cells, used in feeding as part of a diet that takes the gut's microbial environment into account. MOS compounds are involved in microbial interactions in the gut and in the utilisation of nutrients.

B vitamins and their nutritional significance

The B vitamins found in brewer's yeast participate in numerous normal metabolic processes in the body. They are related to, for example: energy metabolism, normal function of the nervous system, muscle function, skin and coat structure, and normal cell renewal.

The amino acids in brewer's yeast participate in the formation of the body's protein structures and normal tissue renewal.

Chromium as part of brewer's yeast

Brewer's yeast naturally contains small amounts of chromium (typically approx. 1–3 mg/kg). Chromium is involved in the normal metabolism of glucose and carbohydrates in the body, as well as in the utilisation of nutrients at the cellular level.

Dietary use context

Brewer's yeast is used as part of a dog's diet, for example in situations where:

  • you want to add a source of B vitamins to the diet

  • the protein composition of the diet is being balanced

  • you want to add yeast-derived fibre structures to the diet

  • the diet is being changed

  • appetite varies

  • the dog is active or trains regularly
