Fenugreek Seed for Dogs

(Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Fenugreek seed is a plant-based feed ingredient used in dog feeding due to its nutrient-rich composition, particularly its plant-based protein and fibre content. Fenugreek is suitable as a complementary ingredient as part of a balanced diet for dogs.

Fenugreek seed powder is digested more effectively in the dog's digestive system than whole seeds, making the powdered form a practical and evenly mixable option as part of the daily diet.

Protein – a nutritional perspective on musculature

Fenugreek seeds are rich in plant-based protein, which contributes to the dog's daily protein intake as part of the overall diet.

Protein is an essential building block for muscle tissue in canine nutrition and is needed for muscle maintenance at all life stages. Especially for active and mobile dogs, adequate protein intake is a key part of a balanced diet. The plant-based protein in fenugreek complements the dog's total protein intake alongside the rest of the diet.

Fibre and mucilage – a structural perspective on digestion

Fenugreek seeds are rich in fibre, including soluble fibre and mucilage. These naturally occurring plant compounds effectively bind water and alter the texture of food when the seed powder is mixed into moist food or water.

Thanks to the mucilage and soluble fibre, fenugreek swells in liquid, forms a soft and gel-like texture, makes the feed mass moister and more uniform, helps form a more cohesive feed mass, and the gel passes through the digestive tract along with the food.

Natural composition

Fenugreek seeds naturally contain high levels of crude protein and crude fibre, soluble fibre and mucilage, compounds naturally found in plants such as trigonelline, as well as minerals and vitamins as part of the plant's natural composition. The seeds contain, among others, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc, as well as vitamin C and several B-group vitamins.

Nutrient levels are naturally occurring and may vary between raw material batches.

Use in feeding

Fenugreek seed powder is mixed into the dog's regular feed as is. It is suitable for use as part of the daily diet when you want to supplement the diet with a plant-based, fibre-containing protein ingredient.
