Nutritious carrot for horses and dogs

Dried carrot flakes are a natural and palatable feed ingredient, used as part of a balanced diet for horses and dogs. Carrot is particularly known for its natural carotenoid content, the most notable of which is beta-carotene.

Natural composition – what does carrot contain?

Carrot naturally contains:

  • beta-carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A

  • small amounts of vitamin E

  • B-group vitamins

  • minerals and trace elements

  • dietary fibre

Beta-carotene is a plant-based carotenoid and a precursor to vitamin A. The animal's body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A as needed, which is why beta-carotene functions nutritionally differently from pre-formed vitamin A. Vitamin A is involved in several normal processes in the body, such as vision and the structure of skin and mucous membranes.

Dried carrot contains approximately 11 mg beta-carotene / 100 g. The beta-carotene content varies naturally depending on the origin and processing of the raw material.

Carrot also naturally contains small amounts of calcium, potassium, iron and phosphorus.

Carrot as part of the diet

Carrot flakes are used in feeding particularly to:

  • improve the palatability of feed

  • add variety and texture to the diet

  • as part of a light and natural feed mix

Not all animals' digestion reacts the same way to plant fibre, so it is advisable to start with a small amount and monitor the animal's response.

Carrot has a moderate energy content, making it suitable in reasonable portions for a wide variety of feeding situations.
