Eat hemp!
Hemp seeds are an excellent source of essential fatty acids. The fatty acids in hemp act as powerful antioxidants that, among other things, protect the skin and help combat inflammation in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the healthy function of the brain and eyes, among other things. Hemp contains about 80% polyunsaturated fatty acids, and its omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are in an ideal ratio of 1:3.
Whole, unhulled hemp seeds are close to a “complete” feed ingredient because they are such a versatile and nutrient-dense product. Hemp seeds are an excellent source of protein and contain amino acids that are essential for the body. The proteins in hemp seeds (edestin and albumin) are highly bioavailable and well tolerated. They are also suitable for many horses with allergies.
Hemp seed is considered one of the best sources of the building blocks for globulins. Proper immune function requires alpha, beta, and gamma globulins for the body’s defenses.
Hemp is well suited for, among other things:
- Treating skin issues and summer eczema, as the fatty acids effectively “oil” the skin and improve its resilience
- Improving coat and mane/tail quality, as a supplement during coat shedding
- Improving hoof and horn quality
- Supporting overall condition and vitality
- Supporting the musculoskeletal system
- Also suitable for pregnant mares, foals, and breeding stallions
