Sea buckthorn berries and their seeds contain a unique composition of important omega-3, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids as well as vitamins. Omega fatty acids protect and maintain the wellbeing of the dog’s skin and coat as well as the softness and moisture of the paws and paw pads. Omega-7 fatty acids are particularly beneficial for the skin and mucous membranes. A deficiency of certain fatty acids may cause tear fluid to become excessively watery and cause dry eyes as well as skin dryness or flaking. Adequate intake of fatty acids supports the wellbeing and functional ability of the dog’s joints.

In addition to important fatty acids, sea buckthorn contains numerous minerals and many important vitamins such as A, B, C, E and K vitamins as well as flavonoids and plant sterols.

The strong orange color of sea buckthorn is due to its high beta-carotene content. The body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A. Vitamin A is beneficial for, among other things, vision, skin, mucous membranes, and immune resistance.

Sea buckthorn contains many different antioxidants. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals and thus protect cells, tissues and organs from oxidation, stress, and harmful environmental toxins and chemicals. Oxidative stress may play a role in several vision problems in dogs. Antioxidants and vitamin C protect the body, including the eyes, from damage caused by free radicals.
