Chamomile – a gentle herb as part of your horse's diet
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is a versatile and gentle herb used in horse feeding when you want to bring soft, calming, and plant-based variety as part of a balanced overall diet. This product contains the whole chamomile herb (flower head and stem), making it mild in nature and easy to combine as part of a wide range of feeding regimes.
Chamomile is not an energising or potent herb – it is used especially when feeding should be gentle and balanced, without an extra kick or additional stimulation.
When to use whole chamomile?
Chamomile is particularly suitable for feeding in situations where:
-
the horse is sensitive by nature or reacts easily to changes
-
you want to add an herb to the diet as part of a balanced overall regime
-
there is variation in appetite or eating rhythm
-
you want an herb that does not add energy
-
you are planning the diet for a calmer everyday routine, for example during the indoor feeding season
Chamomile is a gentle and neutral option that works well as part of the daily diet or herbal courses.
Natural composition of chamomile
Chamomile naturally contains essential oil (approx. 0,2–1,5 %) as well as flavonoids typical of the plant (approx. 0,3–1,2 %) and other compounds. The amount of essential oil varies naturally depending on plant parts, growing location, and harvest, and gives chamomile its characteristic, mild aroma and flavour.
When using the whole herb, these compounds occur together with the rest of the plant mass, making the overall profile smooth and gentle.
Chamomile in the evening
Chamomile is a familiar plant to many from everyday use – in humans it is often associated with evening moments and a warm cup of chamomile tea. The same image of gentleness and softness makes chamomile a natural choice for horse feeding too, when you want a calm and approachable herb as part of the overall diet.
No pep in the step – just a soft part of a well-considered diet.
Use and preparation
Chamomile can be given as-is mixed into the regular feed.
Many choose to steep the chamomile as part of the diet, allowing the herb to soften and mix evenly into the feed.
