Goat's Rue for Horses
Goat's rue (Galega officinalis) is a perennial plant belonging to the legume family (Fabaceae), traditionally cultivated as a fodder crop, green manure, and honey plant. It originates from the Middle East and Southeast Europe, but today it grows widely across various parts of Europe.
The plant belongs to the legume family, and like other legumes, it naturally contains plant protein, nitrogen compounds, and galegine, a guanidine derivative. Galegine is the plant's own, natural compound. It has been extensively studied, particularly to understand the chemical composition of the plant. The plant's fibre content is relatively high, which makes it a structurally coarse feed material.
In addition, it contains many other compounds, such as flavonoids, phenols, tannins, saponins, and many other compounds.
When is goat's rue used?
Goat's rue is suitable as part of the diet in situations where:

forage is high in energy or contains a lot of easily digestible carbohydrates (sugars)

you want to add small amounts of structural, plant-based fibre to the diet
-
the overall diet would benefit from a composition typical of legumes
-
a concentrate-heavy feeding regime is in use and the aim is to balance the dietary structure
The plant's high fibre content (25 %) and moderate protein content (22 %) make it a structurally quite coarse feed, which is why it is typically used in small amounts mixed into the regular feed.
It is particularly suitable for:

the spring season, when transitioning from silage to pasture feeding

horses whose diet is largely based on high-sugar forage

as part of a varied herbal diet
Dosage:
Horse:
500 kg: 1-2 tbsp / day. Mix into the regular feed.
Maximum dosage 2 g/ 100 g. Do not exceed the dosage.
Always start with a small dose.
1 tbsp = 4 g.
1 dl= 20 g.
