Chia de Gracia's domestic milled hemp seeds for horses are milled from whole oil hemp seeds and contain all the nutrients of the seed. Milled seeds are absorbed more efficiently than whole seeds, especially for horses that chew poorly or have reduced digestive efficiency. Also suitable for dogs.
Hemp seeds are rich in essential omega fatty acids as well as valuable gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA). According to studies, gamma-linolenic acid helps to reduce low-grade inflammation in the body and supports skin well-being. Studies conducted on dogs have shown that omega fatty acids support joint metabolism in connection with osteoarthritis. Stearidonic acid is an easily utilised form of omega-3 fatty acid for the body. The fatty acids in hemp are in an optimal ratio of 3:1 (omega-6 and omega-3). Fats also serve as an energy source. Hemp is rich in vitamin E, which is an important antioxidant.
The protein in hemp seeds contains all essential amino acids. Over 500 different amino acids are known, of which 21 are essential for horses. A healthy horse's body can produce 12 amino acids on its own, so the remaining nine essential amino acids must be obtained from the diet. Hemp protein consists of 65% edestin and 35% albumin, which are high-quality and highly absorbable. Hemp protein does not contain trypsin inhibitors typical of soy that impair absorption.
The carbohydrate contained in hemp is all fibre. Of the fibre, 24 g is insoluble and 6 g is soluble fibre. The high fibre content helps to balance digestive function.
- Milled hemp seeds are particularly well suited for dogs, whose short digestive tract does not have time to digest whole seeds efficiently.
- Hemp products are also well suited as feed for horses/dogs that cannot tolerate grains/sugars in their diet or that suffer from metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, or are prone to laminitis.
- Excellent for horses/dogs whose skin well-being needs support.
