Support Paw Pads with Nutrition

Sea buckthorn's active compounds nourish paw pads

Varied walking terrain, gritting gravel, road salt, asphalt, concrete, and freezing temperatures all put a dog's paws and paw pads to the test. Cracked pads can be truly painful and, if they become inflamed, can cause bigger problems. Regularly checking the pads helps you respond to changes early. The diet can also support paw pad wellbeing. It is a good idea to check the pads from time to time, wash them, and if needed apply a protective balm. Various paw balms are available on the market, but feeding can also support the durability of paw pads and nails and reduce dryness and cracking. Dry paw pads often benefit from a diet that contains omega fatty acids. For example, cold-pressed flaxseed oil or hemp oil contains plenty of essential fatty acids that help not only skin and coat wellbeing, but also support the condition of paw pads. In addition to omega fatty acids, vitamin E is also known as a vitamin that promotes skin wellbeing and supports, for example, the management of atopic skin. Among trace elements, zinc—important for dogs—supports not only paw pads but also nail health.

Sea buckthorn to help paw pads

Many dog owners are surprised to hear about the high oil content of sea buckthorn berries. Sea buckthorn oils contain valuable omega-3, -6, -7, and -9 fatty acids. According to research, the palmitoleic acid contained in sea buckthorn may have an effect on, among other things, skin condition and the healing of skin damage, as in animal studies sea buckthorn oils have been observed, among other things, to promote wound healing*. The oils contained in sea buckthorn alleviate atopic dermatitis** and nourish dry skin, as they improve the nutrient supply and metabolism of the subcutaneous fat layer. Sea buckthorn oils have been reported to have positive effects, among other things, on the eyes***, the skin, and mucous membranes. Sea buckthorn berry oil contains many fat-soluble antioxidants, such as vitamin E, as well as carotenoids that give it an orange colour. In addition to the oils mentioned above, sea buckthorn contains many different vitamins and flavonoids. Sea buckthorn contains important B vitamins that support the healing of skin damage. Sea buckthorn is rich in vitamin C as well as zinc, manganese, magnesium, sodium, and calcium, which are also beneficial for the dog's overall nutritional status and wellbeing.
